Supervision

for

LMSW Seeking LCSW

Tiffany Flores, LCSW-S  and Holly Campbell, LCSW-S with Starfish Counseling provide supervision for those persons who are LMSWs and are seeking a clinical supervisor for work towards their LCSW.

This can be an overwhelming process in the beginning. Let's walk through, together, the key points you need to know!

What are the Boards Requirements?

The Texas Behavioral Health Executive Counsel: Texas State Board of Social Work Examiner requires the following:

  • Supervision with LMSW’s for 4 hours per month. Tiffany and Holly, both, offers a two-hour group session twice a month and a one-hour individual session by request.

  • LMSW’s meet with their supervisor for 100 total hours in no less than 25 months

  • LMSW’s need 3,000 total work hours when they submit their final paperwork to the board to be eligible to sit for the licensing exam.

Does My Employment Qualify?

Due to recent changes, the board has determined that supervisors will regulate if the LMSW’s current employment setting qualifies for “professional clinical experience.” It is best if your employment setting allows you to assess, diagnose and treat mental health using the DSM-V criteria. If you meet this qualification then you are eligible to participate in LCSW supervision courses. If you do not meet this requirement, then you would need to have a supplemental plan. Supplemental plans include working a minimum of 4 hours per week in a clinical setting where you can assess, diagnose and treat clients.

Group & Individual Supervision

Group Supervision

  • Tailored to your professional goals in addition to the 10 core social work competencies and foundations of a licensed independent social worker.

  • Read the DSM V and the Code of Ethics

  • Study various therapeutic modalities and medications

  • Review clinical inspired multiple-choice questions

  • Present cases and ethical dilemmas to the group for feedback

  • Make connections to other Social Workers in various settings

Individual Supervision

  • Individual time with the LMSW and myself.

  • Present cases and ethical dilemmas to me for feedback

It is recommend to participate in the group setting for majority of your time in supervision. Individual supervision is expected to be utilized as an additional support to track your progress, review goals, look at specific modalities for your clients, and reaffirming your knowledge as needed.

How do we get started?

  • You will reach out to Tiffany or Holly via our contact page and request to schedule a Supervision Consultation.

  • A consultation session will be scheduled to meet and discuss supervision goals. You are also welcome to ask your questions at that time. Based on this conversation, we will determine if we are a good fit for each other before we begin our supervisory relationship.

  • When you attend your first session, we will complete the application forms. We will also complete the supervision agreement/contract and BHEC forms. We will sign the forms and you will provide a copy to Tiffany or Holly and then wait to mail them to the Board until the conclusion of your total supervision hours.
    – Participating in supervision with Tiffany or Holly is considered “outside supervision.” So, a letter from your employer, on agency letterhead, with Tiffany's or Holly's name and credentials listed, is mandated.

  • Tiffany or Holly will keep several copies of the forms you sent to the board. Please keep a copy for your records.

  • When mailing your forms, at the end of your total supervision hours, Tiffany or Holly would encourage you to mail your application certified with return receipt. This means, that you receive a tracking number and someone from the board has to sign for your application when they receive it. They both also recommends emailing it and faxing it as well. All three ways ensure that you have a paper trail of your submission to the board when your supervision is complete

  • During the last few months of supervision, test prep for the LCSW exam will be included in the supervision sessions.

What is the investment?

  • Group Rate: $70 for each hour//$140 for each 2-hour session// Monthly total $280

  • Occasional Individual Rate: $75 for each 1-hour session.

  • Ongoing Individual Rate: $75 for each 1-hour session.
