John P. Turner, LCSW

Telehealth Only

I am passionate about seeing lives and relationships restored. I recognize the courage it takes to come to therapy and believe that transformation happens in the context of relationships when people feel heard and understood. My hope is to invite clients into a safe space where we can honestly confront painful and uncomfortable issues. I provide a safe, nonjudgmental place for clients to process their feelings and navigate the difficult issues of life.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).  I received my Associate Degree in Human Services from San Juan College in Farmington, New Mexico (1999). I received my Bachelor of Social Work (2004) and my Master of Science in Social Work (2008) from The University of Texas at Arlington.

I have an extensive history of working with children, adolescents, and adults. I have worked in the Private Practice, Psychiatric inpatient, Residential Treatment Centers, Foster Care, Children Homes Settings and Chronic Illness environments. Additionally, I have work with Students from newborn to college age through other professional experiences, volunteer involvement with local non-profit agencies and ministry in the local church and other religious organizations.

Areas of special clinical interest include Trauma, Adoption Issues (failed adoptions), Children in Foster Care, Children of Divorce, Family Counseling, Parenting Issues / Training, Marriage / Couples Therapy and Chronic Illness.

Additionally, I have worked with individuals experiencing school problems, learning disabilities (ADHD, ADD, Etc.), Depression, Self Esteem issues, anger management, grief / loss / bereavement issues, life transitions, anxiety, and personality disorders.

I use an integrative approach that feels authentic to me and supports my belief that there is no “one size fits all” treatment plan. I often use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral therapy, Mindfulness and Solution focused interventions. I have training in trauma, thought field Therapy and I am EMDR Trained. I like to incorporate Animal Assisted Psychotherapy and Music into sessions when appropriate. I provide Christian Counseling for those who wish to integrate their faith into therapy.

No matter what you are facing, there is hope, and I would be honored to come alongside you as an objective, empathetic counselor who can see the potential in you and help you to see it in yourself! All of us have scares, our scares can be beautiful. Please contact me to set up an appointment to get started on your journey to emotional well-being!
